Corsa d tappet noise

My December Corsa D 1. Think I've heard similar noise on other similar 1. Similar engine, 79 bhp, in my previous Corsa C, ran beautifully quietly.

Is this anything to worry about? This will be the fuel evaporative emission valve. Nothing to be concerned about. They all make this noise, some more noticeable than others. Haven't heard about that. How does that work, and where is valve situated? I do know the car uses too much petrol in comparison with previous Corsa I had, even allowing for extra weight.

Oil gets dirty in no time at all. It has hydraulic presumably self-adjusting tappets and variable valve timing, if that is any help.

When this problem occured to my daughters car, 4 young women broke down on the M6 miles from home I had never heard that there was a problem with these engines, I thought it was just bad luck, It was a struggle to get them home and then gave her a real problem with transport, luckily we had another Corsa she could use.

The AA man diagnosed the problem and he was spot on, I took the car to a mechanic I use and that was when we found the broken cam cap as well as the broken shaft, at that time I thought the shaft had snapped and taken the cap with it so I contacted Vx customer care and asked them whether it was unusual that a camshaft should go after 60K.

I don't know what fact you want, Vx have confirmed there is a problem, the holding down bolts come loose allowing excess movement of the camshaft and causing failure, as an engineer are you saying that this is not what is happening? I doubt that you would say that its OK and that loose caps are something that the shaft can cope with so as an expert what sort of failure would you expect from loose caps?

Our 1. I was concerned about this, but in the past year I've had two other 1. On these bikes, the noise was diagnosed as cam end-float and was harmless. Dalavich Forumite 40 posts. Hi, I have a Corsa D, 10 plate, 1. It does follow the revs speed. I think it's the fuel injector. A local garage thinks it's the tappets. It's off for a 3rd opinion now Any ideas as it seems that forums don't mention the whole manifold, but tend towards injectors or tappets.

I think I'm being fleeced here Any advice or experience of what you think is wrong please? Unfortuantley it has hydraulic tappets so will require a lenghthy job, but if i decide to ge tit fixed rather than sell the car for next to nothing as there is nothing else wrong with the car is it worth reparing and for how much???? System Posts: 2, Forum Member.

I would say live with it, and change your car when you can. Just a thought - have you had an oil change lately? If not - do so - hydraulic tappets get very noisy when your oil gets old, and thin. And use a decent oil - Castrol, Duckhams etc - cheap oils degrade quicker.

Yes I changed it twice last year I might get a really thick oil as it may quiten them down abit! Bobdk Posts: Forum Member. DNZ, Using thicker oil to dampen the sound will only mean you wreck your engine in a more quiet fashion. The tappet is sticking, which is why it is noisy, the noiser it is, the more damage is occuring.

Not having it repaired is going to result in greater expense in the near future. As an indication, when I had a Corsa with a sticky tappet under warranty I took it to the dealer to ask his advice and he wouldn't let me drive it away!

Get it fixed very soon. Yep - totally agree. Don't put thicker oil in than recommended - as Bob says, it'll do more harm than good. If it is still rattling after a fresh oil change, then get it sorted. Yes its still rattling!

I did have a quote but it was in the region of - pounds as it meand a whole new cam shaft and they have to send the car away Im buggered cus my mot is runs out tomorrow too. Before you spend any serious money Use some flushing oil from a motor factors, then fill with the correct oil as recommended. Take it to a garage if that doesn't work. Don't let them change the cam unless you see it, it may just need a new set of lifters.

Since I've had the car the engine makes quite a loud ticking noise when idling It's been taken back to Vauxhall dealership twice and they say there is no problem and one of the engineers said he could not hear anything at all. It sounds like I'm sitting in a diesel car!! It's just had it's first service since I got the car and decided to try some Hydraulic valve lifter in with the new oil to see if that would help Does anybody else have this annoying problem?

And what can I do to fix it? A slight ticking is normal, but what you say doesn't sound good ,you say its done it since you had it? The car has only done miles so far and had it one year on the 8th of this month. It has made this noise since I first got it but Vauxhall don't seem to want to know about it. I would go to another vx dealer see what they say,or go to independent garage to see what they think it is. At first i want to apologize for my English Dear Ainsley, i've got the same problem with my 1.

When the engine is cold there's no sounds. I dont know what to do about it It's frustrating isn't it? But let me tell you something, couple days ago i drove from the shopping center to my house and stopped the car, after i dont know? I dont know what to do about it im calling the service station tommorow. Please let me now what's going on in your Car best regards. We use cookies to make the site easier to use. JustAnotherSaver Forumite 4. I'm far from a mechanic so i don't even know what tappets are. We read it can be down to the chain on them, which was changed a couple years ago.

We read the noise can come back, which it did. I oil change it every 6 months, although before she bought it, it must've never had an oil change according to the garage who changed the chain, as they had to pull loads of black sludge out.

Never asked at the time, but what can continuing driving result in? It's been making a squealing noise lately Some limited success with the old flushing oil trick and new oil. Many mistake the noise for cam or tappets, but as they are hydraulic lifters, this is usually not the case on this engine.

It does sound like the dreaded piston rattle.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better Retrogamer Forumite 4. If it's the same noise as before the timing chain was replaced and the noise vanished when the chain was replaced, chances are it's the chain again. Were the sprockets and pulleys changed the same time as the chain? Was it official Vauxhall parts that were used?

Halp with Corsa and LOUD tappets???

The main problem with these engines is Vauxhall set the service intervals too far apart. Ideally they should be done every 6k miles or 6 months, whatever comes first to keep the chain good. If it's had the usually k or longer on the first few oil changes then chances are that's killed the original chain prematurely. They're usually fine for approx k miles. As said, the mechanic who changed the chain said that he didn't think the car had EVER had an oil change due to the build up of sludge they spent a day scraping out.

He even took photos to prove this to the wife as he'd "never seen anything so bad". The car i think has now done 75k miles. The parts used were in fact genuine GM parts. Although can't really afford to repair.

Not sure how much she'd get for trade in though. Depends what you need the car for I suppose. We process personal data about users of our site, through the use of cookies and other technologies, to deliver our services, personalize advertising, and to analyze site activity. Tappets noise, do they need replacement?

Posts Latest Activity. Page of 1. Filtered by:. Previous template Next. The injectors do tick anyway but much louder than normal, is it worth chucking some cleaner in. Other thoughts are the tappets, they're hydraulic on these engines but can obviously still clog limitng oil squirting out of them, any of you tried a cleaner to flush them out? If can't be flushed out can the tappets be changed without removing sprockets, and chain? Tags: corsaenginesoil.

Worth trying a couple of oil changes but whatever you do don't use engine flushes. We process personal data about users of our site, through the use of cookies and other technologies, to deliver our services, personalize advertising, and to analyze site activity.

Hi Welcome to the forum I would have thought there are several possibilities in the area you have worked on. Or maybe something else needed fixing but was missed. What caused the valve failure? Are you absolutely sure the other valves were undamaged, and not for instance slightly bent?

One possibility is the hydraulic tappets are not primed with oil. They might fill themselves after a while and quieten down, but I dont know for sure. Others may know. Did you use a full timing chain kit with new sprockets?

You can buy kits without sprockets but its not a good idea. There could be a mismatch in specification or wear on the old sprockets that will cause immediate noise. A cheap aftermarket kit is not a good idea either as they often wear much more quickly than a genuine GM one. But you would hope this would not be immediate if the kit and tensioner has been fitted properly.

You might be able to isolate exactly where the noise is coming from by using a mechanics stethoscope. Too well sometimes, Everything can sound noisy when you this, the secret is knowing what is abnormal.

Or a short length of hosepipe or similar, one end to to your ear, the other close to the suspect area might help.

But be careful of moving parts. But its best not run an engine making unexplained noises. Can you give any more details, and maybe a video or sound recording? Last edited by Bugman ;AM.
